Outreach North East is committed to protecting your information and being clear about how we use your data. We’ve recently updated our Privacy Notice to ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA 2018) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which set out rules for processing personal information. We are committed to dealing with all personal data in a fair and transparent way and ensure that we have the appropriate security measures in place.
This notice sets out who we are, the type of personal data we collect, why we do this, who we pass it on to and what we do to keep it secure.
Who are we?
Outreach North East provides a single point of contact for teachers and advisers which will signpost and improve access to information and support to encourage progression to higher education. Outreach North East is funded by the Office for Students’ (OfS) Uni Connect Programme. Newcastle University is the lead university for Outreach North East and act as the lead data controller. This means they are responsible for all of the information we collect.
Why are we collecting your information?
Our team act as a signposting service and will direct you to the relevant information. We may not have an immediate answer, so we collect some key information in order to enable to us to respond to your query. We also have a duty to report the number of queries we receive to the OfS, so we must ensure a record of each enquiry is stored.
As per data protection laws, we have to have a legal basis for collecting your information. We believe that the work we are doing to support young people to progress to higher education is in the public interest and that is why we collect your data.
Information is stored securely in Newcastle University. We will keep your information for no longer than 5 years following the closure of Outreach North East.
Who will your information be shared with?
Nobody. We will not pass any of your personal information to third parties. Reports to our funder will include an aggregate number of queries and information on the type of queries we receive; no personal information will be shared and there will be no impact on you.

- If you sign up or consent to receive direct marketing and communications, such as a newsletter or relevant event, activity or CPD information, we may request your contact information.

When you call our office we may ask you for some information that will allow us to respond to your query as quickly and efficiently as possible. We will normally ask for your name, email address, telephone number and the name of the local authority in which you work or reside. When you email our office for the first time we will store your email address in order to respond to your enquiry.
You may decide to contact us using a dedicated form on our website. You will be asked to complete your name, email address and telephone number. This will be used to contact you to respond to your enquiry. If you contact us using any of our social media platforms the message will be stored in their secure messaging system and can only be accessed by authorised individuals within our team.
Visiting our website
We use Google Analytics to collect information of visitor behaviour patterns. This helps us understand how many people have visited our site and which pages are visited most often. We do not collect or store personal information using Google Analytics and we cannot identify you as an individual.
What are my rights?
You can request to look at the information we hold about you. You can do this by visiting http://www.ncl.ac.uk/data.protection/accessyourpersonaldata or by contacting us using the details below.
You can request that we change your information to make sure it is correct. Please let us know if at any time your personal information changes.
We do not charge for any of the above and we will do our best to respond to all requests within one month. Occasionally it may take us longer than a month if your request is particularly complex or you have made a number of requests. In this case, we will contact you and keep you updated.
