Durham University Supported Progression Programme

Find out more about Durham University's Supported Progression programme for Year 12 students in the North East. The students apply for a specific subject strand, in which they have a taster of what it is like to study that subject. By passing the assessed summer school project, they can work toward a guaranteed, conditional offer, as well as developing their academic skills.

The Durham University Sutton Trust Summer School is a week-long event designed to give bright students from non-privileged homes the opportunity to experience what it is like to be a student at a leading university. The residential summer school is a fantastic opportunity to find out more about applying to university, to meet some of our current students and work with our academic departments. This programme is available for gifted and talented Year 12 students from UK state-maintained schools.

STEP (Space to Explore Potential) Programme (Durham University)

STEP is aimed at black students studying in Year 12 at a state school. On the summer school, STEP students will take part in a variety of sessions and activities that showcase the Durham experience, from academic taster sessions to social activities. STEP students will receive a comprehensive range of information, advice, and guidance (IAG) about UCAS, personal statements, and student finance.

Newcastle University PARTNERS Programme

The PARTNERS Programme has been running since the year 2000 and is one of the most well-established supported entry routes to Higher Education of its kind. Through the PARTNERS Programme, students could: receive a lower conditional offer to Newcastle University; attend the PARTNERS Academic Summer School; develop skills necessary to be a successful student; meet other students; receive support through the application process, on results day, and after entering the University.

Northumbria University NU Entry

NU Entry is a structured scheme for Year 12 students (or equivalent), attending schools/colleges in England and Northern Ireland, who meet specific academic and background criteria. By participating in the NU Entry Scheme students will be provided with the opportunity to develop skills necessary for successful undergraduate study and have the opportunity to earn 16 NU Entry points, which are the equivalent to UCAS tariff points when applying to Northumbria University.
